why

Why We Started This Program

Studies show that many fathers in Sri Lanka spend minimal time engaging with their children, often due to cultural norms or work pressures.

Fathers never or rarely discuss personal matters with their children
Fathers do not actively participate in their children’s education

In many Sri Lankan communities, fatherhood is still viewed through a traditional lens fathers are seen primarily as providers, not nurturers. This cultural mindset limits emotional connection within families and leaves children without the affection and support they need to thrive

Research reveals that 85.7% of fathers rarely or never discuss personal matters with their children. Many men grow up in environments where emotional expression is discouraged, making it difficult to communicate feelings or guide children through their own emotions

Around 76% of fathers are not actively involved in their child’s education. This often results from work demands, migration, or the belief that academic nurturing is solely the mother’s role. Such disengagement can affect a child’s confidence and learning motivation

Many fathers carry unhealed experiences from their own childhoods — from absent parents to unresolved family conflicts. Without healing, these patterns continue across generations. Our training provides a safe space for fathers to process and overcome these emotional barriers.
